What Reddit actually says about OpenClaw

A search for OpenClaw on Reddit returns love, rage and a great many setup threads. We read the threads so we could quote them honestly: the complaints below are verbatim, sorted by what they are actually about, and each one points at the guide that answers it or at the honest admission that nothing does. This is the same corpus our own pages are built on.

Setup

The install is one line. Getting it production-stable is a different sport.

• The Windows missing-module loop, Node version conflicts and reinstall loops fill the install threads; the docs’ own answer is WSL2 or the Hub app.
• One-click hosts get their own thread: nothing works out of the box, the WhatsApp QR fails, the schemas are broken, two days lost.

Cost

The money threads are the loudest: being charged five dollars a day for nothing, with the heartbeat running on an expensive model and no tasks; a wrong question costing twenty dollars; forty million tokens burned with no idea how; and the recurring question of whether two hundred dollars a month is normal. Reliability

• It sat there for two hours doing nothing; it says things are done that are not; it needs a nudge every few minutes.
• Updates: many versions broken since, unusable after a spring release, downgrade to an older build. The community manager’s own line was that updates broke working installs and too many users spent their time recovering instead of using the product.
• Integrations that need re-authentication, Google OAuth tokens that expire in testing mode, Telegram delivering a 401 while the cron work succeeded, plugins listed as disabled after an upgrade.

What the threads agree on

The product is powerful and the operating is the job. Almost every complaint above is an operations complaint: a process to keep alive, a key to rotate, an update to survive, a model to keep on a budget.
